Canadians are turning into Newfies

At least, that’s how it sounds to me. This article from the Toronto Star makes several claims regarding linguistic changes in standard Canadian English, though the accent samples included sound to me like they were provided by people from Newfoundland.

Having said that, I do have to admit that I have a tendency to merge i and e when pronouncing “milk” as “melk” and so on.
